Professor Carmelle Peisah – Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age

Carmelle Peisah is an old age psychiatrist currently working in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Department at Westmead Hospital as well as providing direct clinical services to a large nursing home in Sydney. She is Conjoint Professor UNSW and Clinical Associate Professor Sydney University. She is co-founder and President of human rights charity Capacity Australia, and has extensively published and presented in a range of ethical, capacity and human rights issues in psychiatry, with a specific focus on the end of life, voluntary assisted dying (VAD)(including acting as consultant to the Training Providers for the enactment of the Victorian VAD legislation), and the concept of “healthy dying in dementia”.
